Hello summer, you’ve pushed spring away. We aren’t friends right now because you’re yeidling temperatures that are way too HOT. If anyone is looking for me, you’ll find me in a cozy chair with a glass of tea in hand along with one of the books below.

What I finished reading

Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe was just what I needed this week. Thanks Mrs. Threadgoode and Evelyn for making me smile. High five to Evelyn because sometimes smashing someone’s car in the parking lot just feels liberating.

The Last Romantics is about the effects of grief among the members of the Skinner family. Noni becomes a widow of four children when her husband does unexpectedly. Noni falls into a deep depression, referred to as the Pause, and the Skinner children do their best to take care of each other and Noni. There are things I want to say about this book, but don’t am having a hard time summarizing. I feel somewhat split down the middle on this one overall; still mulling it over.

You’ve listened to me go on and on about loose leaf tea for months now. We’ll this time I’m sharing a bagged team Thai iced tea, some friends gave me months ago. As I’ve mentioned before, I can be a bit *particular* about my tea and how it’s prepared. After last week’s Vietnamese lunch with friends and both of them ordering Thai tea, I decided I’d make my own since I find it too sweet at restaurants. I steeped 3 bags of the tea for a full pot, chilled it in the fridge for a day, poured it up and add a bit of coconut milk instead of condensed milk. It was delicious.

May Reads

Lilac Girls for Seasons by the Book has been a lot of fun. Check out the final discussion here. There will be a few fun surprises comings on to conclude our time with the book and wrap up the season! We will be announcing the summer pick soon!

Still reading The Count of Monte Cristo but didn’t read any of this week. As soon as I post this, I’ll pick it up for a few chapters while I eat some ice cream–a Klondike bar, a favorite from childhood!

The book I selected for Our African-American Reads for May was one of my most memorable reads of the month. I hope you will consider joining in July for out next book. I’m thinking about a single book we can read and discuss together.

Last but not least, looking at the books I read in May, here’s how things shaped up: 1 classic, 1 historical fiction, 4 fiction, and 1 mystery. 3 of the fiction books were review books from publishers; I borrowed 1 from the library. Since I didn’t read any nonfiction in May, I will make a list of potential reads for June.
